After submitting the tax registration questionnaire, it can take several weeks for the Finanzamt to issue your tax number. Four to eight weeks is common; depending on the Finanzamt, it can be faster or slower.

Follow up with the Finanzamt

If you have not heard back after a few weeks or need the tax number urgently for invoicing, contact your responsible Finanzamt.

Have these details ready:

• your name and address
• submission date
• a copy or confirmation of the submitted questionnaire
• your ID if you visit in person
